hostess with the mostess

Welcome ever smiles,
And farewell goes out sighing.
~William Shakespeare

A bittersweet farewell to Hostess cupcakes.
Yes...believe it or not...I have a soft spot in my heart for these well-preserved delights!
I looked in all the local stores and only found this one package remaining
after hearing the news of the company's demise.

Sigh.

Happy Friday-eve!!

For what food does your heart have a soft spot!?
Do tell!!

I'm with Pam - Snoballs!! Especially at Easter. Pink or white! Would gladly trade you a cupcake package for a snoball package. Well - time to update our "go to". (Let's not even talk about the Sara Lee All-Butter Coffee Cakes!)

Suzy Q's! I think of them as the mass market, commercial whoopee pies :-)

A friend of ours is a fleet mechanic for a non-union hostess shop here in NH. I'm so sad for him that he'll be losing his job. Hopefully somebody buys the brand and employs some of the workers being displaced.

We are losing a Hostess bakery here in my little town in Iowa, too. It is sad to see it close---when I was in grade school, that was one of the places we got to visit on a field trip. It is also sad that people will be losing jobs. I wish someone would buy it and use it to make healthier, yet tasty, food.

I miss those lolipops in the shape of a thin triangle that had round wax at the base and then 3 colors of corn syrup candy stripes, green, yellow and red going up to the top. sigh.

I bet we could learn to make these, just as tasty, and with less preservatives!

Ding Dongs make me think of my dad; he took them in his lunch regularly....long ago.
