memory lane

Today's my birthday...and at the last minute I thought it would be fun to scan some old pictures and post them.

My sister did all the scanning...thanks, Jilly!! She did an awesome job. You might be able to see some more of them here.

I've had an awesome day today!! So many wonderful birthday greetings from friends and family started off my day!! I'm so blessed!!

Mr. NK and I went on a little road trip to Astoria for lunch, leaf peeping and some good old fashioned fun!

It was a gorgeous fall day and my heart is full...a girl couldn't've asked for more!!

I hope you all have a fabulous and treat filled weekend!! xo

autumn nights

Socktober is almost over and I'm still casting on!!

These are a test knit for the lovely Anne over at Knitspot.

These are her Cinder Block socks, and the yarn is STR...a rare gem. I know...I'm a poopster!!

I love how the cool blues and eggplant colors complement the warm harvest tones.

The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes
from the summer cottons
into its winter wools.

upward bound

The weekend had its ups and downs...lots of knitting was accomplished. I'm on the 5th repeat of the September Circle neckwarmer...that's an up for sure. And I love knitting with the MadTosh merino light...another up! I calibrated my monitor...scary, but an up. There were some sunny moments...an up for sure.

On the flip side there was some major rain. And thunder. Loud. Thunder. The kitties and I ran for cover...literally. Not such an up!

I hope you all had more ups than downs!

Happy Monday!!

and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October.

heart light

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower”
~Albert Camus

It's been a busy week here at Chez NK. Late work days combined with rapidly decreasing afternoon light, and a printing class on Wednesday nights (I'm so excited about this class!) left me a little behind blogwise. Fooey.

I hope you all had a great week, and are looking forward to a fabulous weekend! I'm hoping to keep dry as heavy rain is in our forecast, but that's outside...hanging out at home with DVDs, knitting and the kitties is in our 'inside' forecast!

See you on the flip side! xo

sunkissed sands

The celebration of Socktoberfest continues!

South Fork socks by Linda Welch

The minute I saw this pattern I knew I wanted to knit it...and I knew exactly which yarn in my stash would be a perfect complement...

...STR Sunkissed Sands

To make it even sweeter, Linda is running a half-marathon in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and donating her proceeds from sales of this pattern to the LLS during the month of October. How cool is that?!

And it's secret knitting time...so, no rest for this knitter!!

That about wraps it up for this Tuesday! I hope you all are having a great week!

that is the interior of the soul

hello monday

Happy Monday!! I'm at the last stitch pattern...a leaf motif...I bet you're not surprised!

I'm almost finished...it is slow going at this point...the stitches are too many to count! :) Not really, but I would rather be knitting them than trying to count them without losing track and having to start over again! LOL!!

We explored the local pumpkin patch this past weekend. The weather was glorious, and I will be oh so sad to see it end.

What about you, what did you do for fun?

I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself,
than be crowded on a velvet cushion.

happy day

Is there a better way to celebrate Friday-eve than with fresh macarons?

I think not!

I didn't make these...Brooke did. I'm just the taste-tester (best job in the WOOORld)!

They passed...

...with flying colors!!

Sock update: the second embossed leaves sock is almost half-finished! Hmm...what socks will be next on the needles...only the macaron knows!

Hint: I won't be using a rare gem! ;)

beach treasures

We were at the beach this past weekend. The weather was mixed to say the least.

My philosophy: all weather is good weather while at the beach.

That deep thought is quickly followed by this one: there is no better time to cast on a new project than at the beach!

Thank you all for all the info about those autumn crocuses!! You guys rock!

unexpected

~Robert Doisneau

I've been seeing little clumps of these flowers here and there. I heart them. Does anyone know what they are? Some kind of autumn crocus, maybe?

I hope seeing them brightens your day as much as it has mine!

Happy weekend!! I hope something unexpected will cross your path and make you smile! xo

socktoberfest

October...October...there's something about October...

Aha...Socktoberfest. I had almost forgotten about Socktoberfest until I was reminded here and here.

I had a little road trip with my mom on Saturday and thought it would be the perfect time to cast on for a new pair of socks to celebrate Socktoberfest.

making time

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.
~Elizabeth Lawrence

Saturday, I'm going with my mom to her favorite farm to do a little pumpkin hunting, and on Sunday, we're going to Astoria to celebrate Mr. NK's mom's birthday. It's gonna be a full one...might have to take a little vacay before work...hah! just kidding!

What about you? Anything special on the calendar!? Don't forget to take a moment to watch the leaves turn! xo
