Friday's Flowers: Critters

It has been a delight to look for the critters in the garden this year!

Sometimes they just sit still and model perfectly for you...I think Mr. Froggy is even smiling in this image!

This little guy stood still forever for me...isn't he cool looking? He's as delicate as the peony he's perched on...and he even kind of matches, doesn't he?

Sometimes they blend in so that you can barely see them.

Trust me. There is a critter in this photo, too. He is very small, and I didn't see him until he moved during the capture. Click on the image and see if you can find him! I'm thinking there might even be two critters in this image...what do you think?

Truly, I spent about 45 minutes and 200 shots with this little girl. She was totally entertaining. She was scampering in and out of the folds of the petals of this worn out rose. Then she would burrow deep into the blossom and wait for me to go away. As soon as my attention was cast to another bud, she'd reappear and commence traversing her floral terrain.

Fascinating.

How lucky I was to catch sight of these ladybugs two nights in a row!

It was a good week, indeed.

I hope you all have a brilliant weekend!

OH! Those darling frogs! They are my favorite. We had a small tragedy here. My roses were being devoured again this year! I tried everything from hand picking to using "safe" soaps and sprays. Finally, the garden center lady put her arm around me and said, "My dear. You must spray roses in Minnesota. There's just no way around it."

So I picked off all the ladybugs I could find, made sure there were no frogs on the plants, waited until the bees went to bed and then . . .gulp... I sprayed. Horrible chemical poisonous hideous spray.

and it felt good. really really good.

There is definitely a critter near the innermost swirl of the rose...there are also 3 antenna-like things in the upper right hand corner...I don't know whether it's a critter in there, or something else...I didn't even see those until I went to post the image! These little bugs are so sneaky like that! :)

Rani, I'm sorry you had to spray! But you saved the ladybugs, bees and froggies...so it's all good!

Brilliant critter photos! I had to look hard, but I found one critter on the rose.

Have a great weekend!

Wow. Those are great! I feel like I'm drowning in that velvety rose, with the critter!

Wow! Saw the inner rose critter right away when I blew it up (sneaky linear bugger), but that outer one eluded me 'til I closed & then re-opened the pic.
