out and about

I've been spending more time out and about with my camera

and less time knitting lately.

I did manage to get a shot of  the 'pointless counts' socks while

out and about Friday morning at waterfront park (my new favorite hangout!).

still sizzling

Knitting happened this past weekend.

Not just knitting...but some fabulous time spent with a group of friends I hadn't seen in 

a very, VERY long time. Nothing can top that!

I love that linen stitch heel...I wish I could memorize it though.

My face crinkles when I knit it from concentrating so hard! LOL!

We also went to see 2 Guns. Very fun summer movie.

I read somewhere that the first five days after the weekend are the hardest.

So. True.

we're ending the week on a knitterly note here at we heart yarn! yay!

i've had my eye on this stitch pattern for quite awhile...

...it seemed like a good time to cast on and get 'em done.

my to do list for the weekend includes knitting, photography, breakfast out, movie night (2 guns!!) 

and cleaning up all the little piles of knitting and such that seemed to have popped up

over every flat space as far as the eye can see.

oy.

I stopped by the river on the way home yesterday.

I couldn't take the heat a minute more.

I was also looking for somewhere to photograph the new sock.

New, as in just started, not new as in a new pattern!

I'm dubbing these summer sizzle...apropos for my sixth pair of toasty twist socks, yes?!

The Seattle to Portland (aka STP) bike race rolled flew through our community last Sunday.

Oh my!! They pedal fast!

I was clicking away as fast as I could.

The bikers were so entertaining and most of them acknowledged the big white lens in front of them

in some way or another.

Some were too busy multi-tasking to notice the camera...

...some were having a total blast...it was already 80-something degrees in the sun, 

and this man was happy as a clam.

I loved his smile!

Love this guy...it was horribly hot by this point (90-something I think) and he totally exerted the energy to flex for me (ahem) the camera! Too fun!!

I loved the experience of shooting an event like this! Thank you Jane for you workshop earlier this year. 

I was better prepared for capturing/freezing/panning motion shots than I would have been otherwise!! :)

Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend?

Our plans seem to be a bit fluid...I'll keep you posted! Test knitting is complete, so hopefully we'll be

getting back to some knitting posts next week!

July 15, 2013 was the 30th anniversary of Project Dayshoot.

In 1983, 92 amateur and professional photographers

were invited to document life in Oregon in a single 24 hour period. 

Their efforts were published in a book, One Average Day.

Since 1983, not only have the styles of cars and clothing changed, but also our way of photographing, processing, and sharing our images. 

Social media wasn't on photographers' radars in 1983!

(You might recognize that first image from my Halloween post last year...I love that old house!

It's a very small world, indeedy).

I didn't know about this photo project until I heard about it on the radio

while on my photowalk that very evening.

These are but a few of the images that document 

my part of Oregon on July 15, 2013.

This time of year the queen anne's lace is in its full glory,

and the second round of ladybugs are out and about!

Dragonflies are still present, albeit a little worse for wear as we approach the end of their cycle.

Bikers ride near sunset when the cool breeze of the evening refreshes them!

The cows and goats graze and keep watch over Bernet's Farm, and

Mount St. Helens, uncloaked by deep snow, can be seen in the background

from the corner of Dike Rd and Columbia Ave.

All was good on the evening of July 15, 2013 in 97056.

I plan to be prepared for the 60th anniversary of Project Dayshoot!

Don't you wonder what I'll be shooting with then?! :)

I've been taking walks nearly every evening with camera in hand.

Last night I had a sock in hand, too.

So many things to capture my attention.

I love wilty daisies.
